2021 The Other One
The 24-year-old Mourvèdre vines at Glenrose Vineyard are some of the most mature in west Paso, and every year this wine continues to develop more complexity as the roots reach deeper into the limestone. There are two Mourvèdre plantings on the summit at Glenrose, and we are lucky to have four terraces in the upper block and three terraces in the lower block. The upper block at 1,595 feet elevation brings intense fruit to this wine, as well as very fresh acidity. The lower block at 1,100 feet receives less sunshine and therefore yields a wine with intense minerality and very chalky tannins that have a crushed-rock note on the palate. As is custom, we blend the two together in various percentages every year to make a wine that has incredible freshness but also a distinct sense of place.
The upper and lower blocks were both picked on October 14th and fermented separately. All of the fruit was fermented 100% whole cluster in 1.5-ton bins and managed with punch downs three times a day. During blending, Ryan selected the three best barrels from each block as the final blend for our flagship Mourvèdre. After fourteen months in neutral French oak barrels, the wine was bottled on December 16th.
