The 2019 Ugni Blanc, is our 7th release of this rare varietal. Above-average yields allowed us to produce the largest amount of Ugni Blanc since 2014, which is especially welcome since the fruit quality is so high. The vines from this planting are nearly 20 years old and every year this wine gains more tension and striking minerality.
The Ugni Blanc was picked on September 17th at 22.1 brix and yielded 2.26 tons per acre. The fruit was picked cool in the early morning hours, then whole-cluster pressed into a stainless steel tank. After the juice settled overnight, it was moved to stainless steel barrels where it fermented with Champagne yeast for a long and slow fermentation. Aged for 2 months, this wine was sterile filtered and bottled on January 14th.
