The 2018 Ugni Blanc, our 6th release of this very rare varietal, may be our finest to date thanks to an incredibly high-quality vintage. Above average yields allowed us to produce the largest amount of Ugni Blanc since 2014, which is especially welcome since the fruit quality is so high. Although beautiful in its youth, we have found this wine ages quite well if you decide to put a bottle or two away for a few years.
The Ugni Blanc was picked on September 13th at 22.1 brix and yielded 2.2 tons per acre. The fruit was picked cool in the early morning hours, then whole cluster pressed to a stainless steel tank. After the juice settled overnight, it was moved to stainless steel barrels where it fermented with Champagne yeast for a long and slow fermentation. Aged for 2 months, this wine was sterile filtered and bottled on December 18th.
