2016 Comes a Time

In 2005 the Tillman Family planted Alta Colina Vineyard on Adelaida Road at an elevation of 1600’-1800’.   The soils are a combination of Gazos and Santa Lucia, which are silicious shaly loams and have a lower pH than limestone soils.   This soil chemistry creates wines with less acidity and more richness and texture. The Mourvedre planted on top of the hill is clone 369, which tends to be more brooding with lots of dark fruit qualities.  Alta Colina is always one of the first vineyards to see bud break, flowering, and veraison due to its high elevation.  The 2016 vintage of this wine is the best that we have produced to date.  Comes a Time offers a crushed rock sensation on the nose along with notes of blackberry, olive brine and garrigue which have become apparent with this vintage and can only be attributed to the deep roots of this stellar planting.

The Mourvedre was picked on September 23rd and sorted 100% whole cluster into 1.5 ton bins upon reaching the winery.  The fruit was inoculated with a yeast selected from this plant material’s origins in the Languedoc and fermented for 15 days.  Once dry, the wine was pressed to neutral French oak barrels, blended in March and aged for a total of 14 months before bottling.

The first sip and I felt I am over the clouds... how can I describe a taste, almost impossible but I can say it has very light, easy to drink texture but so tasty...
