SONGS OF ITS OWN

58% Mourvedre, 22% Grenache, 17% Syrah, 3% Cinsault

Glenrose Vineyard

Normally our Grenache based cuvée, mother nature had other plans.  Low yields of Grenache and Syrah, along with a high quality vintage for Mourvedre, dictated a new take for the 2015 Songs of its Own.  Still our most refreshing and approachable wine, the higher Mourvedre component brings more earth tones, the sweet red Grenache fruit chimes in accompanied by Syrah’s dark fruit and violet notes.

The Mourvedre was fermented 100% whole cluster and the Grenache and Cinsault cofermented with 50% whole clusters.  The Syrah was completely destemmed with all of the components spending 5 months in neutral barrels before the final blend was assembled April 2016 and aged for 9 more months in neutral barrels.

THE OTHER ONE

100% Mourvedre

Glenrose Vineyard

The Other One is always a selection of the best Glenrose Mourvedre barrels in the cellar.  The assemblage harkens back to the early days of Paix Sur Terre when the upper terraces were the main component of this wine.   The upper terraces produce a brighter version of Mourvedre giving this year’s wine more generous fruit and just enough earth and mineral flavors to balance.

Fermented 100% whole cluster in 1.5 ton open top bins and aged in neutral barrels for 14 months.

Comes a Time

100% Mourvedre

Alta Colina Vineyard

Alta Colina Vineyard provides a completely different profile of Mourvedre from the rest of our wines; it is the only site we work with that is planted to primarily silicious soil rather than the limestone that is so prevalent in the area.  Silicious soils yield wines with chewier textures and umami characteristics.

Fermented 100% whole cluster in 1.5 ton open top bins and aged in neutral barrels for 14 months.

THE GOLDEN ROAD

100% Monastrell

Yankowski-Weeks Vineyard

Our newest addition to the Paix Sur Terre lineup, The Golden Road is 100% Monastrell from the stunning Yankowski-Weeks Vineyard.  Monastrell is the Spanish clone of Mourvedre and is a relative newcomer to American soils; the Monastrell clone became available for planting only 6 short years ago.  This is the first Monastrell released in the Paso Robles AVA and has been a favorite wine to taste out of barrel this past year.  Monastrell has the telltale plummy fruit of Mouvredre but brighter acids and more roasted meats than the spices of the French clones.

Fermented 100% whole cluster in 1.5 ton open top bins and aged in neutral barrels for 14 months.

Ugni Blanc

Kiler Grove Vineyard

The Ugni Blanc at Kiler Grove continues to impress us with its freshness and drinkability year after year.  The 2015 has a different twist as we achieved a measly .88 tons per acre, the lowest yield ever at Kiler Grove Vineyard.  This natural concentration has given the 2015 a bit more mid palate texture with no shortage of the freshness and minerality typical of this wine.

Picked on August 29th at 22.8 brix, the fruit was whole cluster pressed and racked into stainless Muellers and neutral French oak barrels.  All barrel fermented, the Ugni Blanc was aged in 100% stainless steel barrels and will be released in April 2016.

GRENACHE BLANC

Glenrose Vineyard

Our first release of Grenache Blanc shows all the pedigree of the limestone soils and 18 year-old vines at Glenrose Vineyard.  The 2015 exudes typical varietal notes of fennel, lime and white peach with an exotic nose of Tahitian vanilla and clotted cream.  There is no oak on this wine, the vanilla and creaminess comes completely from varietal and site; the minerality is like no other.

Picked on August 27th at 22.8 brix, the fruit was whole cluster pressed and racked into stainless Muellers and neutral French oak barrels.  All barrel fermented, the Grenache Blanc was aged in 100% stainless steel barrels and will be released in April 2016.
